Spaniards gain on average between two and four kilos during the holidays due to sedentary lifestyle and poor diet
September is the month in which Spaniards start the most diets, but only 5% of them are successful, according to Dr. López-Nava, director of the Bariatric Endoscopy Units of the HM Sanchinarro University Hospital (Madrid) and the HM Hospital Delfos of Barcelona.
According to the expert, Spaniards gain on average between two and four kilos during the holidays due to sedentary lifestyle and poor diet. This situation means that September is the month chosen by most of the Spanish to start a diet for weight loss, most of them without success.
Dr. López-Nava has explained that summer is a critical time for overweight people, because that two or three kilos is added to the two that they probably took at Christmas and the two that will increase the following summer.
"It is a circle from which it is very difficult to get out without professional help and which can easily make us gain 10 or 12 kilos in 10 years, with the health problems that this entails," he assured.
Lack of discipline
The expert points out that most of the time, the diet that is started is correctly designed, but this fails because it is very difficult to comply with it, since hunger and lack of satiety prevent it from being prolonged for the necessary time.
The solution, he says, is simple, but help is needed. "We must address the problem of overweight from a comprehensive point of view. On the one hand, from the famous three fronts: nutritional, physical and psychological, but also helping the patient to have less appetite and an early satiety that increases dietary compliance", Dr. López-Nava has added.
In this sense, the aid in the fulfillment of the diets has evolved and improved enormously in the last years. The specialist recommends endoscopic stomach reduction, a technique that "increases the chances of success by up to 85%" percent as long as it is performed in a hospital center, by an experienced medical team and is accompanied by nutritional and sports monitoring and psychological.
"Endoscopic stomach reduction treatments, that is, intervening through the mouth, are a good starting point to eliminate extra kilos", explained the expert, since they are "safe, fast and easy to understand "by patients.
The doctor has ensured that the techniques used allow the patient to lead a normal life from the day of the intervention and the results are "excellent" if combined with diet, exercise and follow-up to help control anxiety.
"Many patients have the wrong idea that stomach reduction treatments are only for people with very significant obesity, but they are increasingly being prescribed for people who are overweight and mildly obese, who have tried a multitude of diets and have not been successful or They have gained weight again. They are very minimally invasive treatments that provide excellent results, "he denied.
High blood pressure can be fatal and hence it is important to know how to keep it under control. Hypertension is a blood pressure reading above 140/90 mmHg. Such a high reading puts one at risk for a number of serious health conditions, including stroke and heart disease.
