Ideas (sharing best practices and cultural competency gained locally and nationally)
Resources (relationships, volunteer expertise, financial, facility, and equipment)
Identify leaders and future leaders, current initiatives and community information
Convene like-minded mission leaders, build trusting relationships, and improve community impact; break down silos; connect the disconnected
Mobilize the faith community; build capacity for members' ministries and missions.
THERE IS A CRISIS IN OUR COMMUNITY
Unicity defines our community as families who make up neighborhoods that build the San Antonio metro area. Too many families in our community are fractured. Our current support systems for families are fragmented, rather than unified. When the family structure is broken, the government expands its reach in an attempt to cope with devastating social needs caused by generational poverty, our foster/adopt crisis, sex trafficking, and education deficits. In Texas, the taxpayer cost of every fractured family is $38,000. In San Antonio alone, that translates to $300 million. The cost in broken lives exceeds the cost in dollars. The problem is vast.
And yet, God's design for the family, the most basic building block of the community, is perfect. Families are the first school of character, teaching the meaning of love while developing a child's capacity for empathy, trust, and generosity. Children learn boundaries and discipline, as well as restraint, as they practice human interaction. It is often the first place where faith is lived and taught. There is no other institution that can replace the family.
